Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) Compliance Made Easier with New Python Library!

In response to the recent passing of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) by the European Parliament on March 12th, our team is thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking open-source Python library called pybuildingenergy.

With the EPBD mandating member states to renovate a significant percentage of non-residential buildings to meet decarbonization targets, our library offers a crucial tool for assessing and improving buildings’ energy performance. Compliance with EPBD regulations involves adhering to ISO 52000 standards for accurate energy needs calculation, and our library simplifies this process.

We have therefore created an open-source Python library called pybuildingenergy to perform some building analyses based on ISO52016, ISO52010, etc.

Key features of pybuildingenergy include:

  • Calculation of sensible energy needs for heating and cooling, with options for hourly or monthly assessments.
  • Determination of internal temperature based on hourly calculations.
  • Estimation of sensible heating and cooling loads, also based on hourly calculations.

But that’s not all! Our library is continuously updated, with upcoming features such as:

  • Integration of machine learning to calibrate the model with real data.
  • Technical-economic analysis tools for applying construction packages to building renovation projects.
  • And much more!
